Nazareth needs ninety

Welcome and thank you for stopping by! The students of Escuelita Nazareth have just finished another successful school year. However, our work in continuing to support them is not done. The Nazareth Needs Ninety campaign is a fundraising project with the goal of collecting $98,000 in order to keep the doors of Nazareth open.

Escuelita Nazareth is the only special needs school serving individuals with mental and physical disabilities in the department of Olancho, Honduras.
Third annual Fundrasing evening of classic rock'n'roll

The St. John The Baptist Church Honduran Mission Team in support of the Olancho Aid Foundation presents its third annual evening of classic rock'n'roll at White’s of Westport on Route 6 on Friday evening, November 11, at 8 PM. The event will reunite national recording artist Charlie Quintal, and his band, Talk of the Town. Tickets are $25.

Formerly of the Spi-Dells, Fall River native Charlie Quintal is a New England legend who has appeared at literally hundreds of venues nationwide, sharing stages with artists including Jerry Lee Lewis, Ricky Nelson, Fats Domino, Roy Orbison, Neil Sedaka, the Supremes, and Aerosmith.

His band, Talk Of The Town, was formed in 1969 and were regulars at the famed Warwick Musical Theater for nearly a dozen summers. Charlie scored national hits with “Take Me As I Am” and “Baby” and recorded the regional favorites “Georgia On My Mind” and “Lovely Lies”. The act has not performed publicly in a number of years. In reuniting for this special benefit, Quintal and his band promise an evening of music and memories that will keep patrons dancing and reminiscing.

Internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter-producer Gerry Granahan, who enjoyed hits in the 1950s under his own name and as Dicky Doo and the Don’ts (“Click Clack”) and the Fireflies (“You Were Mine”), will make a special guest appearance.

One of the area’s premier Beatles Tribute Bands, the Mockers, will perform a set of Fab Four classics before Quintal takes the stage. Opening the proceedings will be 11 year-old SouthCoast singing sensation Skyler Callahan. Dubbed the little girl with “a voice like an angel”, Skyler won the 2009 New Bedford’s Got Talent competition in her age category, placed in the top five in Fall River Catches A Star and second in Burt Wood Idol 2010.

The Olancho Aid Foundation, Inc. is a faith-based organization that empowers Honduran youth to transform themselves, their communities and their country through education. From special needs to bilingual classrooms, a team of international volunteers and Hondurans are dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty by providing an environment that stimulates intellectual and spiritual growth and fosters independent thinking. A group of individuals from St. John The Baptist in Westport have traveled to Honduras the past three years and have scheduled a nine-day return trip in March of 2012 to conduct medical clinics and undertake various construction and electrical projects.

One hundred percent (100%) of the proceeds from this event will be used to purchase medical supplies, construction and electrical materials, eyeglasses, and toys for the poor in and around Juticalpa in the state of Olancho, Honduras. For more information, visit them online at www.olanchoaid.org.

The event will offer table seating (reserved for parties of 10), a large dance floor, and cash bar.
Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask...

“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”
- Howard Thurman

On January 26, 2011, Jenna Agule (22), a member of the Olancho Aid Family, was tragically killed during a skiing accident in Colorado. Jenna became part of the Olancho Aid Family in 2006 when the organization welcomed its first parish group from St. Elizabeth’s of Hungary of Acton, Massachusetts. Having shared two trips to Juticalpa with Jenna, it never ceased to amaze me how she dedicated herself to working hard and bringing laughter and joy to all those around her. Not once did she stop smiling and her spirit illuminated the group through the darkest and most difficult moments. Her love, spirit and smile will forever be an inspiration to those who were blessed with her presence.

On behalf of the Olancho Aid Family, we extend our condolences and prayers to her family and friends. We also thank you for sharing in Jenna’s love to our organization and its mission and welcome you to the Olancho Aid Family.
