How To Help Us

Long-term Volunteers

The Olancho Aid Foundation is looking for qualified and dedicated teachers who believe that education is a necessary tool in liberating a people and a country from poverty. We seek volunteers motivated by human and Christian values which prepare citizens for life. We are seeking enthusiastic and creative teachers ready to make, at a mininum, a ten month commitment to teach our students and also to help local teachers with educational methods that will excite both students and staff to excel and shape their own destinies.

Volunteering with us is a rewarding experience.

Teaching Positions

The Cardinal Rodriguez Institute began in 2002 with the mission of preparing students for university studies. Faculty positions exist in the areas of English, math, science, computers, and art.

The Santa Clara School is a bilingual school that includes preschool and kindergarten classes and currently extends to the sixth grade. Students take classes in both English and Spanish.

Escuelita Nazareth is our special needs school serving students diagnosed with Down Syndrome, mental handicaps and hearing impairments. In 2006, the school enrolled 56 students. We hope to increase our capacity in the near future. Volunteer applicants hoping to work at Escuelita Nazareth must have a good command of the Spanish language. We also would like volunteers who know American Sign Language.

Positions With The Foundation

Launching Olancho Aid has created a variety of volunteer positions for professionals willing to offer their skills in a third world country. In cooperation with our Honduran staff, we need assistance in organizing and advancing the Foundation to better serve our schools and Solidarity Projects. Work with the Olancho Aid office could also be accompanied by teaching positions in the schools.

Olancho Aid is need of a lawyer. We're in the process of applying for organizational recognition in Honduras and 501(c) status in the United States. People with law backgrounds in the non-profit sector and experience in organizational development are needed in the Foundation's main office.

A volunteer specializing in business administration is needed to help the Foundation's director elicit and manage donations to Olancho Aid. Additional duties include general accounting, preparing financial documents and helping restructure our financial controlling system.

Olancho Aid requires the expertise of a volunteer qualified in public relations to create brochures, compose public statements and act as a written spokesperson for the Foundation.

When Working With Us

From our applicants, we require: (1) a Bachelor's Degree; (2) an ability to communicate well in Spanish; (3) a passion for education and its possibilities; (4) a collaborative working style; (5) flexibility and personal initiative; (6) good health; (7) a valid passport; and (8) three letters of reference accompanying your application.

We provide housing in a safe residential setting maintained by Olancho Aid and a monthly stipend to cover food, electricity and personal expenses. We are unable, at this time, to provide medical insurance and request that a standard medical report accompany your application. Unfortunately, we cannot cover transportation costs to or from Honduras. Our staff, however, assists volunteers with transportation to and from the airport and with obtaining government permission to work and remain in the country.
