How To Help Us
Short-term Volunteers
At Olancho Aid we offer experiences for short-term volunteers through our teacher-aid program. The objective of this program is to provide exposure of other cultures to Honduran students. Students interact with individuals of a different culture and language, at a time when their growing minds are ripe for learning English and other skills offered by volunteers.
Short-term volunteers work with students in the grade level of their choice. We also embrace volunteers who develop specific educational projects aligned with their personal interests and passions.
Responsibilities can include: (1) an assistant-teaching position at the Santa Clara school; (2) tutoring of advanced students, or students in need of help; or (3) organizing extracurricular activities (including art, sports or music).
Olancho Aid requires, at a minimum, a four week commitment here in Honduras. A Bachelor's Degree isn't required, but we look for people with a background in education and experience with children. Fluency in Spanish isn't necessary, but basic competency is encouraged.
We also require: (1) a passion for education and its possibilities; (2) a collaborative working style; (3) flexibility and personal initiative; (4) good health; (5) a valid passport; and (6) three letters of reference accompanying your application.
We provide housing in a safe residential setting maintained by Olancho Aid and transportation to and from our educational campuses. Unfortunately, we cannot cover travel costs to or from Honduras. Our staff, however, will assist volunteers with transportation to and from the airport in Tegucigalpa if you fly on American Airlines or Continental flights.
