The Escuelita's History

Escuelita Nazareth was conceived as a response to the immediate needs of the local community, and was Olancho Aid's first institution. We sought to become an educational facility for youth with special needs who have no other schooling options, either public or private, in the department of Olancho.

Escuelita Nazareth helps those with special needs.

In 1996 the school opened in a facility offered by a local parish, known as the "Apostolic House". We started with just eight students, one teacher and one director.

In 2000, a generous land donation from Andres and America Garcia of Juticalpa allowed the school to grow. With additional help from Olancho Aid donors and funds from international organizations, we began construction of new school designed by local architect Lillian Gomez Guifarro. Escuelita Nazareth moved to its current location in 2002.

The school indcludes eight classrooms, a workshop and kitchen for life skills training, and a chapel for prayers and celebration. Subsequent financial support from the Honduran government allowed for further construction and furnishings. These funds also supported the training of educators and parents, the purchase of educational materials, and the development of psychological profiles for each student.

Over our short history we have grown from one teacher and director to a full staff of eight teachers, three administrative personnel, four service people, two guards, two maids, two assistants proficient in sign language, a gardener and a bus driver.
