Our Projects
Looking Ahead
We have many plans for the future of Escuelita Nazareth—or more specifically, for the future of our students. In particular, we hope to increase awareness of, and sensitivity to, people with disabilities here in Olancho.
To do so, we would like to conduct awareness campaigns that involve all levels of government, public and private businesses and organizations, and other educational institutions. We also plan to conduct studies that will identify handicapped people in Olancho and assess their needs.
Given the number of people with disabilities in the department of Olancho, Escuelita Nazareth hopes to prioritize other municipalities where handicapped people live and then open more educational centers. In this way we can extend more opportunities to those that don't live in and around Juticalpa.
Within Escuelita Nazareth itself, we need to further develop our programs and better prepare our students for transitions into other schools in the community, or into high schools and universities where they may continue their educations. We also hope to improve transitions into the workplace. This will involve awareness campaigns (as described above) to ensure that people with disabilities have access to jobs in accordance with the law.
We hope to establish businesses at the Escuelita in which the students can work. Goods would then be sold and profits used to sustain the school. Students can also learn new skills and generate their own income, thus making them more independent.
