The School's History

Santa Clara's original purpose was to assist students at the Catholic University of Honduras with childcare while they attended classes. An informal education center was created and limited to children under kindergarten age. Santa Clara's reputation as a quality preschool quickly spread soon after.

First day of school at Santa Clara

In 2003, with an influx in enrollment, a kindergarten was established and this became the first class at what is now the Santa Clara School. We began operating as a formal education center upon receiving approval from Olancho's board of education. Since that inaugural year, we have added support for one new grade each year.

In 2006, Santa Clara began holding classes in a space shared with the Cardinal Rodriguez Institute on the Catholic University of Honduras campus in Juticalpa.

Through the efforts of Father Richard Donahue, and with support from Santa Clara's Association of Parents and Families, we began the construction of a new school campus in the village of La Empalizada, just outside of Juticalpa. A generous land donation from the Lobo family and continued financial support from benefactors made opening the doors to eighteen new classrooms a reality in 2007.
